Saving lives in Los Angeles

You can make a difference in the lives of animals in your community.

Last year, hundreds of thousands of loving dogs and cats were killed in shelters like the ones here in Los Angeles just because they didn’t have a safe place to call home.

Best Friends Animal Society in Los Angeles is working collaboratively with animal rescue groups, city shelters and passionate individuals who are all dedicated to saving the lives of cats and dogs in Los Angeles shelters.

As part of this mission, Best Friends hosts adoption and fundraising events, runs the Best Friends Lifesaving Center in Mission Hills and leads the NKLA (No-Kill Los Angeles) initiative.

You can be part of that work too when you adopt, foster, volunteer or advocate. We can provide training and behavior guidance should you ever need it, or help you find local spay/neuter services. Working together, we'll make California and the entire country no-kill by 2025.

Adopt to help save lives

When you adopt a dog or cat who’s been patiently waiting for a place to call home, you’re not only saving a life.

You’re making space in the shelter for other homeless pets in Los Angeles and giving them a chance to grow, thrive and find families of their very own. You might not feel like a hero, but to one animal, you’re the entire world.

Cats, kittens, and dogs are available on-site every day, ready to meet you! Many of our animals are in foster homes, so please call ahead if you’re interested in meeting a particular cat or dog.

Volunteer and help save pets’ lives

This lifesaving work is made possible by passionate, caring people like you who volunteer to help the animals here in Los Angeles.

Whether you volunteer locally or at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (located in Kanab, Utah), whether you help to transport pets across the country or help animals from your home via one of our national opportunities, you can make a tremendous difference in the lives of homeless pets.

Best Friends in Los Angeles

Best Friends is committed to bringing the entire country to no-kill by 2025, and while incredible progress has been made, we need your help more than ever to get across the finish line.

Community engagement, advocacy and collaboration are key tools we use to build relationships and programming that increase lifesaving throughout Los Angeles. We offer guidance for caring for kittens, dog training assistance and trap/neuter/vaccinate/return (TNVR) support through our coalition and staff.

Nationwide, Best Friends Animal Society is bringing lifesaving tactics to shelters and rescue groups like the ones here in Los Angeles. Based on a foundation of compassion and inclusion, we're working together to help both pets and people.

We want to make sure that everyone has the same access to loving pets and that every adoptable pet has the option of residing in the comfort of a foster home rather than in a kennel at a shelter.

Come work with us and help make a difference.

You can make a lifesaving impact for pets in shelters in New York and around the country.
